Lunar calendar for may year cucumbers. Good day to plant cucumber seeds. Cucumber picking in July and August

Diseases of cucumbers photos and their treatment

Growing cucumbers is a rather troublesome affair. The following conditions must be observed:

  • selection of a suitable site;
  • soil fertilizer;
  • preparation of seedlings and seed;
  • careful care during the period of active growth.

As a result, all labor can be in vain if the cucumbers are attacked by pests or become ill. In this case, the entire crop can be destroyed. That is why it is always necessary to apply preventive measures when growing.

Diseases of cucumbers photos and their treatment: prevention

Long before planting, one should think about how to treat cucumbers from diseases and pests, since most diseases are not treated and it is easier to prevent them.

Professional gardeners recommend following certain planting and growing rules to avoid problems and additional care afterwards. It is with these simple tips that you should begin to consider the diseases of cucumbers and the fight against them will not seem terrible and endless.

  • So that diseases of cucumbers whose photos are in the article do not interfere with rooting and growth, it is worth giving preference to stable varieties.
  • For planting, quality and disinfected seeds are suitable. They should be bought from trusted manufacturers or procured independently, as well as additionally treated with dressing agents (Grandsil and Grandsil Ultra).
  • Seeds are sown exclusively in heated soil. At a depth of 10 cm, the temperature should be at least 12 degrees Celsius.
  • The soil needs to be loosened and properly fertilized.
  • From the beds you need to remove the remnants of last year's plants, as they may contain insect larvae and viral bacteria.
  • It is important to observe the turnover of crops and plantings (should be alternated with legumes), regularly weed cucumbers, timely eliminate unhealthy plants, and carry out treatment from pests.
  • Do not forget that cucumber diseases in the greenhouse and their treatment require a thorough approach. In greenhouses, as well as in open gardens, the frequency and rate of fertilizer application are of great importance. It is not recommended to exceed the composition of the elements: urea (6-12 g), superphosphate (approximately 10 g), potassium chloride (approximately 8 g) and ammonium nitrate (not more than 6-7 g) per 10 l of water.

Diseases of cucumbers photo of leaves and fruits: treatment and prevention

The most dangerous for plants is treatment with improper means and fertilizing with incorrectly selected drugs, so it is important to determine the disease by external signs and know the preventive and therapeutic methods.

White rot

Most often, cucumbers affect leaf diseases, covering over time their shoots, antennae, peduncles and ovary. With white rot, plants are completely covered with mucus and bloom. Infection develops particularly rapidly in greenhouses with thickened stands, high humidity and stagnant air.

To get rid of white rot, you need constant temperature control, thinning plantings and timely weeding of weeds. The affected parts of the bushes should be carefully cut, and the wounds should be dusted with ash or slaked lime. With this disease of cucumbers in the greenhouse or in the beds, disinfection of the soil is required (1-2% manganese solution or nettle infusion), and with severe infection, its complete replacement by 10-15 cm in depth. You should also spray crops with a special solution (10 l of water, 2 g of copper sulfate and 10 g of urea).

Root rot

The disease is dangerous for the measles system, since part of the rhizome dies with it, and the stem itself becomes rotten, and the plant dies just before our eyes. Cold weather, heavy and too moist soil and poor quality seeds result in root rot. Almost all diseases of cucumbers of an infectious nature are dangerous in that the pathogen can be quite long in the beds, in greenhouses or in uncleaned plant debris.

If you notice that the root rot of cucumbers has begun, treatment is carried out by mulching the bushes with clean sand, peat mix, chalk (limestone) or sawdust. Already infected - it is necessary to ruthlessly cut off and disinfect the soil with dry bleach in the amount of up to 200 g per square meter. It is advisable to use warm irrigation water.

Powdery mildew

It is this disease of cucumbers that is considered the most common. Its signs are noticeable not only on the sheets (small spots of white color, gradually covering the entire surface), but also on stems with petioles. The disease stains the whips completely brown, they dry and disappear.

The reasons for the appearance of powdery mildew are almost the same as those that cause other diseases of cucumbers with photos - temperature fluctuations, excessive humidity, excess weeds and neglect of plantations. Cold irrigation water, drafts and strong winds can also lead to its development.

If powdery mildew has appeared on the cucumbers, measures to combat it will be to trim the affected parts of the stem and disinfect the soil. Recommended Processing:

  • ground sulfur up to 30 g for every 10 sq.m. a garden;
  • a solution of 3% colloidal sulfur up to 30 g per 10 l of liquid.

Deep excavation of beds, scrupulous destruction of plant residues, the systematic application of potassium fertilizers will also not be superfluous for prevention.

Peronosporosis

An enemy that destroys entire fields appears as a greenish bloom and yellow spots on the top of the foliage. It has the property of spreading over the entire surface of cucumbers and infecting growing plants in the immediate vicinity.

Powdery mildew, also called peronosporosis, can spread rapidly due to frequent fogs, a large amount of dew, too cool watering and temperature changes.

Peronosporosis of cucumbers, the treatment of which experts recommend using a milk-iodide solution (10 drops per 10 l) or urea (1 g per 1 l), will not interfere with beautiful ripe fruits. The main thing is not to forget about seed disinfection, soil warming and obligatory top dressing.

Anthracnose

Yellow-brown spotting on foliage and pink bloom on the remaining parts of the bushes is most often the result of anthracnose, which develops more with excess moisture. At first, a barely noticeable mucus appears on the culture, however, in the places of its concentration, small ulcers almost always form, which lead to the death of the bush.

The virus is transmitted with inoculum and diseased plants remaining in the ground, while rainy weather and humidity create favorable conditions for pathogenic bacteria.

To prevent cucumber disease in the greenhouse and in the plots, it is necessary to sow only proven seeds in a sufficiently warm and treated soil. Seeds are best purchased from friends, from official agricultural companies, or procured independently. With anthracnose already proven, treatment of cucumbers from diseases with folk remedies helps:

  • a mixture of milk of lime and copper sulphate;
  • bleach solution (up to 40 g per 10 l of water).

Cladosporiosis

Many examined diseases of cucumbers and their treatment concerned damage to foliage and stem, from which the plant itself died. Cladosporiosis affects mainly the fruits themselves. Small, but numerous spots of a watery type appear, which quickly grow and harden, which leads to cracking of the skin of the vegetable and its death.

This ailment is also called olive spotting, which can spread directly through the air, infecting plots with cucumbers during irrigation events or during rains.

Preventive treatment of cucumbers from diseases is provided by a 15% suspension of Bordeaux mixture. However, the problem may not be completely solved. If the remedies do not help, and infected cucumbers constantly appear, diseases transmitted through the air are prevented by reducing humidity and choosing the most resistant varieties.

This disease can be widespread, and spread by foci in gardens and in greenhouses without proper heating. Fungal diseases of cucumbers affect plantations at various points in their growth. The problem of fusarium is that the infection may not manifest itself externally until the plants enter the fruiting phase, when they begin to wilt and die.

Fusarium withering of a cucumber whose treatment does not bring proper results, must be prevented even at the planting stage. You can avoid infection:

  • seed dressing;
  • warm watering;
  • maintaining the necessary humidity and temperature conditions in greenhouses;
  • thorough disinfection of the earth and the processing of material by Trichodermin (5 g per 1 kg) will not hurt.

Pests of cucumbers with photos and their treatment. Ways to fight

Most infections are transmitted by insects, so it is important to monitor their spread and take preventative measures in time.

Gourd aphids

Small pests of cucumbers, ruthlessly destroying ovaries, flowers and leaves, are far from a curiosity for experienced gardeners, especially in rainy seasons. To destroy them, you need to take care of the correct rotation of plantings on the site, dig and disinfect the soil and carefully get rid of weeds.

When the aphids have already attacked the plantings, spraying them with a fermented herbal infusion (1 kg is infused in 10 l of liquid for a day) or a suspension of ash (10 l of water, 50 g of soap chips, 200 g of ash) will help.

Spider mite

It settles on the lower sides of the leaves and, entwining them with a thin cobweb, eats juice, which can cause significant damage to all plantings. Hot weather is ideal for tick propagation.

For prevention, you should properly irrigate the land. Moisture becomes favorable for the spread of most insects, but exclusively dry soil is suitable for the tick. With the destruction of the colonies will allow to cope with garlic or onion infusions (10 l of water and 200 g of husk). Spray the bushes 4 times a season.

Whitefly

A microscopic insect moves and lives no more than a day in the air, but manages to lay gluttonous larvae on the deciduous part of the cucumber. They suck juices from the culture, which leads to the development of soot fungus.

It is difficult to neutralize the whitefly due to its fertility. The methods for removing insects themselves are not so complicated, it is enough to regularly wash off the larvae from the bushes and loosen the soil with the subsequent introduction of peat or humus into it. Spraying with Inta-Vir will help get rid of colonies already gathered on the leaves.

Ants

These are pests, digging millions of underground tunnels and contributing to the appearance of aphids on leaves and stems.

Fighting them is simple: with the help of sweet baits (syrup) and dusting the ground with ash or lime. Having noticed the nests of ants, you can douse them with boiling water, dig them up or pour plenty of kerosene (used oil is also used).

Slug

Insects are afraid of daylight, so they choose to enjoy fresh herbs and pulp at night. Dark droppings and characteristic shiny traces from slugs also do not contribute to improving the quality of the crop.

To destroy pests, regular digging of the sites and their pollination with ash or chalk will help. You can also try to lay out special shelters in which the slugs will find refuge, and collect them during the day. It is also recommended to process cucumber beds with Metaldehyde.

Total

Treatment of various diseases of cucumbers and pest control is not an easy process, but a serious approach to all activities and timely prevention will significantly simplify it and get an excellent harvest as a result.

In most cases, infections can be avoided by observing safety measures during planting, proper fertilizer and watering. Follow the recommendations of professional gardeners and harvest a rich harvest.

The lunar calendar is a universal way by which it is possible to determine favorable days for any work on a personal plot. When it is better to plant certain plants, weed, feed or harvest - the lunar calendar will tell.

General rules for planting plants according to the lunar calendar

The moon can be in several stages: growing, waning, full moon and new moon. The new moon, full moon, and also days when eclipses occur are not suitable for landing. At this time, it is better to generally refrain from working in the garden. Even seedlings should not be planted these days. The growing moon favorably affects those crops that ripen above the earth. Actually, cucumbers are just in this category. Root crops should be planted on the Waning Moon, since in this case it is the roots that will grow, and not the tops. Also, the moon can be in different signs of the zodiac. This should also be considered when landing. For cucumbers, Capricorn, Pisces, Taurus, and Cancer are considered fertile signs. When the moon is in these signs, you can plant seedlings - it will be strong and healthy.

Signs of medium fertility are Aries, Sagittarius and Virgo. Seeds will sprout, but not as amicably as we would like. Productivity will be average and will not please you too much. There are days when it is categorically not recommended to plant seedlings of cucumbers. These are the days when the Moon is in Aquarius, Libra, Gemini or Leo. These are barren signs when the moon greatly affects seed germination. It is possible that they do not sprout from you at all.

When to plant seedlings of cucumbers in 2017?

The best time to plant cucumber seedlings is April and May. The exact timing depends on the variety of the selected plant, as well as the timing of its ripening. Of great importance are the climatic conditions in a particular region. Another important point is the place where the cucumbers will be grown. It can be a closed greenhouse or open ground, that is, an ordinary garden bed.

Seedlings of cucumbers grow from seeds for about three weeks, that is, they need to be planted about this period before planting on the place of constant growth of cucumbers. If you plant cucumbers in open ground, then you need to wait until the night temperature ceases to fall below the + 5 ° C mark.

In central Russia, the usual time for planting seedlings of cucumbers is mid-April. If you plant the seeds earlier, the seedlings will stretch too far up and will be weak. A later planting is fraught with the fact that by the time of planting the seedlings will not have time to gain strength. Cucumbers should be planted in the ground after the appearance of the third real leaf on most shoots.

Favorable days on the lunar calendar

Depending on the region of cultivation of cucumbers, seedlings are planted in different spring months. In March, days 2, 3, 6 and 7 will be favorable days, in April - 1-3 and 11-13 numbers, in May - 9, 10, 19, 21, 28 and 29 numbers. At the same time, the lunar calendar gives recommendations when you should not plant cucumbers for seedlings. In March, the unfavorable days are 1, 4, 5, 25, 26, 28-30, in April - 21, 22, 25, 26, 29, 30, in May - 20, 22-24, 27.

Finally, summer came, and with it came new worries. It is necessary to monitor the health of seedlings planted in the ground, protect seedlings from pests, feed, water ... The lunar sowing calendar will help you organize your work and tell you which days are better to choose for planting and which ones to just relax. Look into it and check with it more often.

  • In the garden  - planting container trees and shrubs, forming a pruning of young seedlings, sowing siderata, pinching annual shoots, rooting mustaches of strawberries.
  • Not recommended  - spraying, vaccination.
  • If, despite the June natural fall of the ovaries, too many fruits remain in the crown, they should be thinned out manually. Then those left will grow larger and better quality. On fruit bunches of apple trees and pears, leave 2-3 fruits, remove the smallest and already damaged, twisted, ugly fruits.
  • If the birds are your favorite cherry and you are left without a crop, cover the crown with protective nets from birds. This is the most reliable crop protection product.
  • If your apple tree bloomed profusely, but didn’t produce a crop, obviously this type of apple tree requires pollination of another variety nearby for self-pollination, self-pollination is not enough for it. If there is no room for planting a second tree, graft another non-pollinating apple tree (or sleeping bud) with another pollinating apple tree. It is often enough to plant one branch of a pollinator variety, preferably in the middle of the crown. Do not miss the timing of the budding - from August 10 to the beginning of September.
  • If the tree grew too fast and is late with fruiting, do not add any more fertilizers, do not cut the crown. Tie up fruit branches growing upwards steeply, giving them a more horizontal position. This will slow down the growth of the tree and accelerate the beginning of fruiting.

At the beginning of the month, we continue to sow vegetables and plant seedlings. Given that the temperatures are already summer, you need to take care of shading for several days of planted seedlings of tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin and other crops.

Gardens of carrots, beets for autumn and winter stocks after sowing, mulch with compost, grass, cover with non-woven material. We regularly check that the soil at the depth of sowing is constantly moist. Is it dry? Gently pour from a watering can.

With sowing radishes, annual green crops (spinach, arugula, lettuce, etc.) it makes sense to wait: long days, hot weather prevent plants from growing green mass, for which they are cultivated, forcing them to proceed to flowering at an accelerated pace. Nevertheless, dill can be sown even during short nights: it will not grow especially lush, but it will provide an aroma.

It’s not too late to sow early-ripening and mid-ripe tomatoes with seeds, so that by autumn they will have tasty fruits for salads, and for juices, ketchups. Seedless tomatoes work well after grain green manure (rye, wheat, oats), planted in the soil in the fall. If there is no such plot, we will introduce humus or compost before sowing in the garden.

In hot weather, the seeds will sprout quickly, if you ensure constant soil moisture at a depth of seed placement. Immediately after germination, the seedlings build up the root system and therefore do not develop very quickly, but in July they will catch up.

It is important to thin out seedlings in time, leaving the strongest plants after 50-70 cm from each other. The first thinning will be carried out in the stage of one real leaflet, the second - with the appearance of 3-4 leaves. With a rare planting nearby, you can leave not one, but 2-3 plants.

If there is room, extra seedlings can be carefully transplanted. We will provide tomatoes with good care: watering, cultivating, hilling, processing against aphids, but we will refuse from pinching, so as not to apply extra wounds through which you can infect.

If the soil is sufficiently fertilized, we will feed the seedling-free tomatoes for the first time during budding: 0.5-1 l of organic infusion, 1-1.5 tablespoon of superphosphate (extract) per 10 l of water.

Cucumbers of June sowing will provide a crop in August. In the summer, it makes sense to sow varieties and hybrids suitable for salting, canning. It is a pity to send the harvest, which we will take off in June, to the banks: they have not yet been full of fresh salads. Yes, and it’s hot in the early summer to work on blanks.

It is not too late to sow 2-3 seeds of squash. The curly fruits of this pumpkin culture, shot in the ovary stage, canned separately or added to jars of cucumbers: delicious and beautiful. The grown fruits of squash will not be superfluous on the summer table. They can be fried, diced, stuffed, gently removing the seed chamber.

Very detailed about the June concerns of summer residents is described in the article

Lunar calendars for the following months:

In recent years, planting cucumbers in the lunar calendar has become more and more popular with amateur growers. 2018 was no exception. Despite the fact that these vegetables belong to unpretentious garden crops, a high yield can be obtained only if the planting and cultivation technology is followed.

Today, the effect of the moon on living organisms that inhabit our earth has already been proven. Plants and garden crops, including cucumbers, are also under the active influence of the celestial luminary, and compliance with all the recommendations of the lunar calendar allows you to make agricultural work as efficient as possible.

All plants that form fruits in the aerial part, need to be sown and planted only on the growing moon. It is best to plant cucumbers in the first ten days from the new moon, or about a couple of days before the new moon. Seeds that are sown a few days before the new moon, begin to activate growth processes just at the stage of the growing moon, which will help to obtain strong and healthy, abundantly bearing plants. But directly on the day of the new moon it is strictly forbidden to sow seeds.

In addition to the lunar phase, the features of the location of the celestial body in a particular zodiac sign must be taken into account:

  • the category of very fertile zodiac signs include Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces and Taurus;
  • the category of fairly fertile zodiac signs include Capricorn and Libra;
  • the category of infertile zodiac signs include Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius;
  • the category of infertile zodiac signs include Leo and Aries;
  • a completely barren zodiac sign is Aquarius.

How to plant cucumber seeds on seedlings (video)

Also note that the location of the moon in a particular constellation is not favorable for all garden crops:

  • cancer constellation is very suitable for planting undersized crops;
  • taurus constellation is optimal for planting almost any crop, but especially designed for long-term storage;
  • the constellation of Libra allows you to plant and transplant all garden plants, and even garden crops;
  • under the constellation Scorpio, you can plant everything, but especially those crops from which the crop is intended for long-term storage;
  • capricorn constellation is ideal for sowing in the winter;
  • under the constellation Pisces, you need to plant seedlings if you need to get the most juicy fruits, but not intended for long-term preservation;
  • under the constellation Virgo, unpretentious ornamental plants are allowed to be planted;
  • the constellation Sagittarius allows you to sow any fast-growing greens, as well as onions and garlic;

  • under the constellation Aries, you can plant vegetables that are not intended for long-term storage;
  • under the constellation Gemini, you can plant any climbing plants;
  • the constellation Leo allows you to plant exclusively decorative perennials.

Landings in the constellation Aquarius and the new moon are completely excluded. Any agrotechnical measures related to spraying with nutrient solutions, treatment against pests and diseases, as well as the removal of weeds, is recommended to be carried out in the second and fourth lunar phases, especially on those days when the heavenly body is in the signs Aries, Gemini, Leo, Aquarius, as well as in the unproductive sign Sagittarius.

Scheme and technology

As a rule, all store seeds are sold ready for sowing and do not need to be preplanted. It is important to properly prepare the independently collected cucumber seeds for sowing:

  • to soak cucumber seeds, a damp cloth is used in which the seed material is contained until the time of peeling. Water should cover only the surface of the seeds. This method of preparation allows you to accelerate the process of germination of seed material;

  • it is very important to carry out pre-sowing hardening, which consists in keeping the soaked seed material for two days on the lower shelf of the refrigerator. After hardening, the seeds should be sown immediately;
  • accelerate germination and increase germination rates can be sparged during the day. For this purpose, a water tank and a conventional aquarium processor are perfect. A gauze bag filled with seeds is placed in the container, which is immediately sown after processing.

The seedling method of cultivating cucumbers has a number of advantages:

  • obtaining high-quality vitamin products at the earliest possible date;
  • obtaining a guaranteed crop in the northern regions and regions with adverse soil and climatic conditions;
  • prolongation of the period of active fruiting.

The main criterion for the proper cultivation of seedlings is to obtain high-quality and strong plants, which have:

  • sufficiently powerful and well-developed stems, the height of which does not exceed 25-30 cm;
  • the stem part should have short internodes;
  • leaves should be dense, dark green;
  • the root system must be strong and well developed.

It is important to remember that cucumber seedlings are grown without picking. Stubborn seeds are recommended to be sown in peat-humus pots, which are pre-filled with a light and nutritious soil substrate. A pair of seeds can be sown in each planting tank.

Before the emergence of seedlings, the air temperature should be 22-28 ° С.In order to prevent the cucumber seedlings from stretching, plants need to organize additional illumination and, after the appearance of mass seedlings, reduce the temperature regime in the room to 18-20 ° С. The plan for planting finished seedlings in a permanent place may vary depending on varietal characteristics and growing conditions:

  • row planting with a row spacing of one meter and a plant spacing of 18-20 cm;
  • planting parencarpic varieties and hybrid forms according to the scheme 0.7x0.7 m;
  • a tape fit with a row spacing of 40 cm and a belt spacing of 1.4 m.

The most popular is square-nested cultivation with plants at a distance of 60-65 cm from each other.

Lunar calendar planting cucumbers in 2018

In most regions of our country, cucumbers are usually sown in seedlings around mid-April.  Earlier sowing works provoke stretching of seedlings, and late sowing does not allow to get a full crop.

Planting cucumbers on seedlings and in the soil according to the Lunar calendar 2017

Planting cucumbers on seedlings and in the soil according to the Lunar calendar 2017

Favorable days for sowing cucumbers according to the Lunar calendar of 2017: March 1, 6-7, March 29-31; April 9-10, April 27-28; May 26-27; June 6-7, June 8-9.

When to sow cucumbers according to the Lunar sowing calendar of a gardener and gardener in 2017?

Cucumbers are plants from the tropics, so they love warmth. Cucumber seedlings can be planted in soil at a temperature not lower than + 15 ° С. Without measuring the temperature of the soil, the time of planting of cucumbers can be determined by popular signs or other signs - when the air temperature at night does not drop below + 10 ° C for a week, or when dandelions massively bloom.

In addition, cucumber varieties are selected according to the type of growth and quality of the fruit.

The timing of planting cucumbers in the middle lane

In Moscow and Moscow region, cucumbers are sown with germinated seeds.  in glass and film greenhouses in mid-May, under temporary film shelters - at the end of May, in open ground - until June 5. Ready seedlings in open ground can be planted after June 10. Or in the same period, film shelters are removed. Unfortunately, in the middle cold zone they can drag on until mid-June. Given the general recommendations, it’s better to follow the weather.

The optimal timing of planting cucumbers in the Leningrad region: sowing seedlings - the end of April - the first days of May, seedlings are planted in unheated film or glass greenhouses on May 20-25, cucumbers are planted on May 20-25 under film tunnel shelters. You can shoot film shelters from cucumber plantations on June 10-15.

Dates of sowing cucumber seeds for seedlings and in the ground

How to calculate the correct time for sowing cucumbers?   The optimal age of seedlings is 25-30 days.  High-quality seedlings should be at least 30 cm high, with 3-4 leaves. To calculate the time of the beginning of fruiting, it is necessary to take into account the ripening variety. By maturity, all varieties and hybrids of cucumbers are divided into:

  • Early ripe cucumbers bloom on 32-45 days after sowing.
  • Mid-season cucumbers bloom on for 50-55 days.
  • Late ripe cucumbers bloom on 55-70 days.

Planting cucumbers in the Middle Urals

The favorable period for the growth and fruiting of cucumbers in the Urals, where the climate is harsh and rather cold, is very limited: frosts can be up to the first decade of June, and sometimes even to the end of the second decade of June, and in the third decade of August they start again. Therefore, in the northern regions, cucumbers are grown mainly in greenhouses and very often through seedlings. Seedlings are planted no earlier than the third decade of May. To quickly warm the soil on the beds, you can use the following method: immediately after the snow melts, the beds are spilled with warm water and covered with a film or lutrasil.

Seedlings of cucumbers planted in the Urals: May 20 in film greenhouses without biofuels, May 1 in film greenhouses with manure. Cucumbers can be sown in open ground on the 20th of May with cover. Cucumbers are planted in the ground until June 10. In the same period, you can plant zucchini and pumpkins. Early ripe varieties of cucumbers (38-45 days after emergence) can be planted in three terms: the first sowing on May 20, the second on June 1-5 and the last sowing on June 15. This will help to stretch the fruiting period of cucumbers until September.

In the Urals and Siberia  for planting cucumbers, it is better to select hybrids with increased resistance to adverse weather factors and diseases. The most productive in the Far East are mid-early and mid-ripening varieties of cucumbers, for example, Far Eastern-27  or Erofei  breeding Far East Research Institute of Agriculture. Additionally, to increase the resistance of plants, it is useful to pre-sow seed preparation - hardening.

In the southern regions of Russia and Ukrainecucumber seeds are sown directly in open ground from mid-April to early May. The best time for sowing seedlings is the last days of March.

In the Rostov region  cucumber seeds can be sown in open ground at the end of April. In the same period, you can plant seedlings. When sowing cucumbers for seedlings, keep in mind that they do not tolerate transplanting: it is better to sow cucumbers in separate peat pots.

IN   Crimea  cucumber seeds are sown in open ground in early May, at the same time, ready-made seedlings are planted at the age of 25-30 days. Seedlings are sown in early to mid-March.

If the timing of planting cucumbers in the soil depends on the weather, then when growing cucumbers at home - on the balcony or on the windowsill, cucumbers can be sown much earlier. Walkthrough and photo on growing cucumbers at home:

Planting and harvesting cucumbers according to the Popular calendar

May 19 (May 6 according to the old style) - Job Horoshnik  - The first cucumber day of the year. On this day, cucumbers are planted in the beds: “If there is big dew on Job, the day is clear and the night is warm, there will be a big harvest, and if the night is cold, there will be no cucumber year.”

May 27 (May 14 according to the old style) - Sidor-Borage or Sidor-Bokogrey: "If the day on Sidor is clear, wait for a good harvest of cucumbers. If the weather is cold, then the whole summer is expected to be cold."

June 1 (May 19 according to the old style) Ivan Dolgiy. Pcontinue to plant cucumbers. If it rains on Ivan Long, then the whole month promises to be dry.

June 2 (May 20 according to the old style) Falaley-Borage or Timofey Gryadochnik.Continue to plant cucumbers on the beds. But in the Northern Regions, cucumbers are just starting to plant on Timothy: "Timothy came - these cucumbers are sooner." There is still a sign: if it rained in the first two June days, the whole month will be dry.

June 5 (May 23, old style) Levon Ogurechnik, Levon Konoplyanik  - The deadline for planting cucumbers. It was customary to plant cucumbers in Levon (Leonty) for pickling, because cucumbers planted during this period were, according to popular beliefs, the most crispy, strong and sweet. There is an interesting cucumber sign: the first bed of cucumbers must be sown secretly, then the harvest will be glorious!

August 17 (August 4 according to the old style) - Avdotya Malinovka, Ogurechnitsa, Senognoyka.  By this time, the last crop was ripening in the beds. Now, with greenhouses and tunnel shelters, the cucumber season can be extended until September.

We can say that growing cucumbers is a simple matter, but if you follow a number of rules, you can plant cucumbers, not only in the open ground, but also in greenhouses, greenhouses, or even on the windowsill. But, of course, if you do not perform at least the minimum set of necessary actions, you will not be able to get a decent harvest that would please you with its abundance. The main thing you need to know for a beginner summer residents and gardeners is this.

The timing of planting cucumbers for seedlings in 2017.

Seedlings grown in advance will help you get the result you were counting on. Of course, early spring planting in open ground is not possible, because the soil has not warmed up enough, so it's time to plant the seeds in special pots, or peat tablets. It is necessary to observe the correct temperature conditions, and it is in such conditions that the seedlings of cucumbers will grow quite quickly, in about 14-16 days.

But, for planting cucumbers in open ground conditions, strong seedlings of cucumbers are needed to achieve this, it is necessary to soak the seeds of cucumbers in the saline solution before planting. If you bought planting material in special branded bags, then it is unnecessary to disinfect the seeds, otherwise, they need to be dipped in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Now the seeds of cucumbers are ready for planting on seedlings. Planting seedlings in open ground begins no earlier than May 12-16.

When to plant cucumbers for seedlings in 2017 according to the lunar calendar

But before planting, of course, you need to compare your plans with the weather forecast, then prepare the beds, and only after that plant the cucumbers.

Planting cucumbers in open ground is carried out in two types of beds:

Vertical beds: these beds are used when growing tall cucumbers. A distinctive feature of such beds will be special supports that will help seedlings to develop correctly.

Horizontal beds: quite ordinary beds, a little rounded. Planting seedlings of cucumbers, carry out at a small distance from each other.

Preparation of beds for planting cucumbers in the open ground.

Before planting, a few days before this, carry out such a simple but effective procedure, just boil water in the kettle, and pour the beds in it without cooling it, and then immediately cover the bed with plastic wrap. Why is this needed? Yes, just to destroy the pests that remained in the ground after wintering. The best precursor for cucumbers is onions.

Planting seedlings of cucumbers in open ground should be carried out not overripe seedlings, otherwise such seedlings will sprout badly. Do not damage the roots of the planting material, because in young shoots of cucumbers it is very fragile, on this basis you should understand that you will need to act very carefully.

How to get a good crop of cucumbers in 2017?

We offer you some effective tips that will definitely help you grow an excellent crop of cucumbers.

  1. Helping to produce new branches of shoots and leaves, you can get more inflorescences, and therefore more cucumbers, from one plant. How to do it? It is very simple, after 3 pairs of leaves appear, fill them with earth, up to the first leaf, and fill with water, after which a spine appears reinforcing the entire vine.
  2. For indeterminate varieties, it is important to pinch, after this procedure, the number of shoots will increase.
  3. Loosening the soil after irrigation is a necessary procedure.
  4. Harvested in time, will give way for the emergence of new sprouts.
  5. Water cucumbers abundantly, this will provide you with a good harvest.

Planting cucumbers for seedlings, rules, video:

There are 2 ways to plant cucumbers.  The first is sowing seeds into the ground, the second -. How to sow seeds in the ground? Consider the process in more detail.

  • Firstly, you need to choose the right time for landing. Many people think that planting should be done very early, back in April. But this is wrong, because the cucumber loves heat very much, and if it is planted in still warm soil, then flowers will appear, and there may be no ovaries and fruits. Then, as a rule, at an average temperature, the earth is already warm enough.
  • Of great importance is the place for planting vegetables. The bed should be well prepared.  Excellent predecessors of cucumber are tomatoes, peppers, onions and cabbage. Do not plant cucumbers for several years in a row at the same place.

  • It is recommended to sow a vegetable in a very interesting way - in a trench. To do this, you need to outline the lines of future trenches in the garden. Then, along these lines, we start digging with a scoop, laying the ground from the sides. It is necessary to dig quite deeply, along the entire length, deepening about 10-15 centimeters.

Very important! If during the preparation of the site for planting (during digging) white caterpillars twisted into a ring are found in the ground, then these are larvae of the May beetle. If possible, it is necessary to carefully review the site and remove all pests. The presented larvae eat everything that is possible, including cucumber seeds.

  • A bit about the soil !. It should not be too sour. It is no secret that all plants love fertile, loose soil, including cucumber. He loves organic fertilizers, and not even humus, as is commonly thought, but manure. After all the holes have been dug up, you need to take manure and pour it abundantly into the trenches. If it’s not crumbly, it’s okay.
  • It is good if during the landing there will be sunny weather.  She is most favorable for a cucumber. And seedlings are best planted in the evening.

After the work, it is necessary to cover the soil with a thin layer of manure. Then we pour each trench with water 1-2 times very plentifully.   After that, for a minimum evaporation of moisture, the cucumbers are covered with a film.

Next, put the seeds in a trench, observing the pattern: the distance between plants should reach 20-30 centimeters. We level the trench, cover the seeds with earth, slam a little, compacting the earth. Cucumbers really like condensate,  therefore, you need to wait a while, then spill a bed from a watering can abundantly and install arcs. On these arcs, stretch the film, preferably thicker (150 - 200 microns) and wait until shoots appear.

How to properly grow seedlings of cucumbers

Today, many summer residents choose the cultivation of cucumbers not seeds, but seedlings. So you can get the first crop in the spring. The first mass picking of cucumbers is possible at the end of March. For winter cultivation in a greenhouse, even with good artificial lighting, shade-tolerant hybrids are mainly used.

In pots filled with planting soil, consisting of garden soil and rotted manure or humus in a ratio of 3: 1. Before planting seeds, the prepared soil is well shed with hot water, fed with complex fertilizers. With this preparation of the soil, the seeds germinate a day or two after sowing.

Cucumbers are very fond of heat, so the optimum temperature for seedlings should not be lower than + 18 ° C; at a low temperature, seeds may not sprout or seedlings will grow very slowly, increasing the time of onset of fruiting.

Seedlings with formed ovaries are planted for low growth in low,  which are made of stabilized ultraviolet retention film. In such greenhouses, it is easiest to maintain optimal temperature; the plant receives sufficient sunlight and does not stretch.

Along the entire length of the greenhouse with a bayonet shovel, they dig trenches up to 50 cm deep, which they lay with a film and cover the husks of any cereals. This mixture is densely compacted and serves to maintain heat inside the greenhouse. Aisles are set to an optimum width of 90 centimeters.

Ten days before the seedlings are transplanted into the greenhouse, the husks are abundantly watered with warm water and urea, and they are covered with a mixture of garden soil, ash and humus; cover with a dense black film for good warming.

A week before the seedlings are planted, cross-shaped holes are made in the film about every 50 centimeters, which are re-shed with warm water and a nutrient solution.

After the rooting of the bushes and their initial growth, trellises are installed along each row of plants, on which lashes of cucumbers will be attached. In greenhouses, a furnace with a hot water boiler is installed, from which pipes are extended around the entire perimeter; water for irrigation is also taken from here. Electric lighting is turned on only on cloudy days - in the spring there is already enough daylight.

Important!  If it was decided to plant seedlings in the greenhouse, and not seeds, the holes in the beds should be made so large that they fit the cups. If the cup is peat moss, then we put it in the ground and drop it with the ground. If not, then carefully pull out the plant so as not to damage the root system.

Planting seedlings of cucumbers in the ground (video)

The cucumber, unlike other plants, has very sensitive roots. You can sprinkle a special powder “Kornevin” (a stimulator of root formation) in a hole and on an earthen ball. This will give an additional guarantee of survival of the cucumber. You need to water the plant under the root of the bucket.

Lunar calendar planting cucumbers for 2019: favorable and unfavorable days by month

It's no secret that there are favorable days for planting vegetables and unfavorable. Learn about them will help a special lunar calendar, which reflects when you can work with the plant.

Implementation of planting cucumbers in favorable periods will allow you to get a good harvest. On unfavorable days, on the contrary, you should not carry out any work with the culture.

We collect the first crop of cucumbers in June

Sowing dates and planting rules for cucumbers

I usually get the first crop of young cucumbers in early summer. To get this result, I am helped by some of the landing features that I have discovered for myself over the years of practice.

I begin to sow seedlings on April 10-15, and on May 2-5 I already plant it in open ground. For early planting, I most often use the German variety.

When planting cucumbers, I observe the following sequence of actions:

  • i dig a trench with a depth of one and a half bayonet shovels;
  • i fill it with about a third of last year's manure;
  • add fertilizers - nitroammofosku and ash;
  • sprinkle with 10-15 cm of earth with humus;
  • i plant seedlings (about 35 bushes on a bed of 7 meters);
  • i cover the landing with non-woven material, over which I stretch a plastic film;
  • as soon as the plants let out a mustache, I take off the covering material and tie the sprouts to the trellises.

We care for cucumbers correctly

Cucumbers love moisture, but it is important not to overdo it, otherwise the fruits will lose their taste:

  • in hot weather, I water the beds with warm water daily, in extreme cases - every other day;
  • if the air temperature drops, on rainy or cloudy days I moisten the soil as it dries.

Also, I regularly remove the stepchildren of cucumbers, because these processes are not needed, but they take nutrients from the main lashes. As a result of this, the bushes noticeably lose productivity. Therefore, I try to prevent their thickening.

As it turned out, not only people and animals like milk. I was surprised when I was advised to use it as a means to accelerate the growth of cucumbers, but after checking, I was convinced that it works. To stimulate the development of culture, every two weeks I water the beds with milk diluted with water in a ratio of 2: 1. The result can be seen already a few days after the first feeding.

After moistening, the soil on the beds is compacted, a surface crust forms on it, due to which the plants lack oxygen. Therefore, I regularly conduct soil aeration to a depth of not more than 4 cm.

Features of mulching

It is important to provide the cucumber root system with good conditions for development. This is facilitated by competent mulching. A layer of mulch activates the reproduction of beneficial soil microorganisms, retains moisture.

For mulching cucumbers, ripe sawdust, synthetic films, non-woven materials, peat, chopped straw are suitable. I do not recommend using fresh grass, because when it is used, the risk of hitting vegetables with fungi and rot increases.

It is important to ensure that the mulch does not touch the stems. This is especially true for young plants. Contact can damage the stems and provoke infection of the bush with diseases.

Care should be taken when using lutrasil or a black film for cover. On hot days, the root system may overheat, so during this period the material will have to be removed.

When the first crop appears, I try to shoot young cucumbers, without waiting until they gain weight. I noticed this pattern - the more often I take green leaves, the higher the total yield of the beds.

It is very simple to grow cucumber beds on your site, but you can only achieve good productivity by caring for them. Following my recommendations, in the first month of summer you will be able to enjoy fresh and crunchy greens.
